Aquaculture
Aquaculture is the farming of fish and is practiced in various systems, such as recirculating tank systems, ponds and dams, and open water cage systems. The demand for fish increases every year, due to population increases, but also due to fish being recognised as a healthy alternative to other animal proteins.
Since 2012, aquaculture produces as much fish as what is caught from wild fisheries, and is anticipated to overtake fishing in the future. Aquaculture, at small, medium and large commercial scales, is becoming a very important source of food globally.
